Meet the Doctors
Proudly Serving the Community for Over 20 years
Matthew Garrison, DDS
Dr. Garrison grew up in the Northland and attended William Jewell College for his undergraduate studies before obtaining his dental degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. He has practiced dentistry here in Smithville since 1996 and has always been committed to providing the most comprehensive dental care possible, though he realizes all patients come in with different goals for their oral health. He strives to remain up to date on the latest dental procedures and techniques with continuing education classes. He is an active member and past president of the oldest study club in the Kansas City area, the University Study Club of Kansas City; past president of the Clay-Platte Dental Society; and active in the Northland Study Club. He is also a past trustee of the board of the Liberty Hospital Foundation. His other professional memberships include the American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, and Greater Kansas City Dental Association.
Dr. Garrison and his wife, Kay, are the proud parents of four kids: daughters Paige, Blair, and Blake and son Tate. Dr. Garrison enjoys music and plays guitar and piano. He loves and has coached lots of sports, including competitive swimming, basketball, soccer, and baseball, but now that the kids are older, he finds more time for his true passions of fishing and hunting and even habitat restoration of his family farm north of Smithville. He and his family have also been involved with their church for 28 years.
Alissa Becknell, DDS
Dr. Becknell is originally from Southeast Kansas and graduated from Pittsburg State University. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry. Following graduation, she completed a one-year General Practice Residency at Truman Medical Center, where she enhanced her clinical skills and gained advanced training. She remained in the hospital setting for several years before transitioning into private practice. Dr. Becknell is an active member of both the American Dental Association and the Missouri Dental Association.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Becknell and her husband, Al, have three sons—Beau, Casey, and Mack. She is also a dog lover and enjoys spending time with her two Newfoundlands. In her free time, she and her family enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, and being with family and friends.
Scott Craven, DDS
Dr. Scott Craven is a Kansas City native, born and raised in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He earned his undergraduate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Before pursuing dentistry, Dr. Craven took time to explore two of his passions—traveling and snow skiing. He later earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the UMKC School of Dentistry in 1999.
Dr. Craven and his wife, Lindsay, have two children, Mason and Millie. They love visiting Mason at Mizzou and cheering on Millie at Shawnee Mission East football games, where she’s a varsity cheerleader. Outside of the office, Dr. Craven enjoys spending time with family, discovering new restaurants, and traveling to Colorado.
Lindsay and Scott also own Frozen Fix, a frozen cocktail trailer that serves up handcrafted drinks at private events and festivals throughout the Kansas City area.
Dr. Craven’s background in hospitality helps shape the way he cares for patients—he strives to create a welcoming, comfortable environment where every patient feels valued and well cared for.
